Biography

Tim is an engineer turned synthetic and computational biologist, with a PhD from the University
of Cambridge, a Masters from University College London, and post-doctoral training at the
Cavendish Laboratory, University of Cambridge. He investigates self-organized collective
behaviors in cell populations and attempts to generate, control and study such behavior using a
combination of computational and mathematical modeling, genetic engineering, and
microscopy. He is particularly interested in how mechanical constraints can generate complex
collective behaviors at multiple scales. More generally he is interested in natural pattern
formation phenomena and complex systems theory.
